Three robbers were so desperate to get away from police at the weekend that they jumped from a moving vehicle during a high speed chase in Centurion.

They were nevertheless arrested, said Lyttelton police spokesperson Warrant Officer Hero Gumbu.

Their accomplices got away with computers worth R15 million.

Gumbu said six men travelling in three different vehicles arrived at a computer business on the corner of Clifton and Gerhard streets around 09:00 on Saturday.

“The armed men pointed a gun at the security guard and tied him up, using cable ties,” Gumbu said.

He said the men proceeded to load computer boxes into their vehicles.

The security guard managed to free himself and alerted the police, who were quickly on the scene.

The culprits sped away in a white minibus, but the police gave chase. Three men jumped out of the moving vehicle in Clifton Street.

They were arrested on the spot and police recovered computers that fell out of the minibus during the pursuit.

The rest of the gang escaped in the minibus, Gumbu said.

“Police where concerned about the safety of the public as the getaway vehicle was driving recklessly and endangering lives,” Gumbu said.

“The men escaped with computers to the value of R15 million.”

He said a white Nissan Micra, and a white Volkswagen Caddy were among the vehicles involved in the robbery.

“No injuries were reported and the men would appear at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon on a business robbery charge,” he said.
