An alleged robber was killed and two others injured in Atteridgeville on Monday afternoon, when a crowd took the law into its own hands.

Police spokesperson Captain Thomas Mufamadi said the alleged robbers had shot and injured three Somali nationals during a robbery earlier in the day.

“On Monday morning, there was a robbery in a supermarket in Block AD where cigarettes and an undisclosed amount of cash were stolen. After the robbery, the four suspects shot randomly in the air and in the process, an 11-year-old boy was shot and injured,” he said.

Mufumadi said the four men fled the scene on foot.

“It is alleged that the four later went to rob another supermarket in Atteridgeville West, Block Q. They stole an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes before shooting three foreign nationals. The three foreigners are currently recovering in hospital,” he said.

Mufumadi said the community were informed about the robbery and took it upon themselves to find the four men.

“Three of the four were found and beaten by the community. One died on the scene, and two are currently in hospital recovering under police guard. One suspect is still at large,” he said.
