Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs defender Eric Mathoho was hijacked in Lotus Gardens on Monday.
Police spokesperson Captain Thomas Mufamadi said Mathoho was unharmed during the hijacking.
According to reports, the man known as ‘Tower’ (Mathoho) was driving with his brother and sister in Atteridgeville when three men approached them with guns and took off in his car.
The lanky defender thanked the police for recovering his car on his Twitter account.
“I am so grateful to God for His protection as I was held at gunpoint last nite, my car is recovered thanx to @SAPoliceService, (sic)” he tweeted on Tuesday.
