A six-year-old girl was shot and wounded in the leg during a suspected break-in in Tshoene Street, Atteridgeville, on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto said the six-year-old was sleeping with her mother when the shooting took place.
“It is alleged that a woman, together with her six-year-old daughter, were sleeping when they heard a loud bang from the roof around midnight. The woman then heard her daughter scream and when she switched on the lights, she discovered that her daughter had been shot in the leg,” she said.
Moloto said the six-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital.
“The motive behind the shooting, at this stage, is unknown and no arrests have been made,” he said.
Moloto said a case of attempted murder was being investigated.
