Two delivery vehicles were robbed in two incidents in Soshanguve early on Thursday morning.

According to Warrant Officer Lolo Mangena, spokesperson for Rietgat police station, two men, a driver and his assistant, were making a delivery in the area when two unknown suspects confronted them at Soshanguve Plaza around 06:45.

“The suspects were allegedly armed and they forced the driver and his assistant into the back of their van,” said Mangena.

Mangena said the suspects allegedly fled with all the parcels in the vehicle, some of which were medication and electronic devices such as cellphones.

Mangena urged the public to come forward with any information regarding the crime.

In another incident a vehicle delivering cigarettes was robbed by two men at Soshanguve crossing complex at 07:35.

Mangena said it was not clear whether the same men were responsible for both robberies.

Mangena said the driver and his assistant were making a delivery when they were approached by two unknown armed men.

“They were both forced into the vehicle and driven towards an open field across the Mabopane highway where the suspects took three boxes of cigarettes,” he said.

“The suspects escaped on foot; they were armed with pistols,” he said.

Mangena added that police were concerned that delivery trucks, especially those delivering bread or furniture, were being targeted.
