Mandela Vox Pop

Pretorians share their thoughts on commemorating the second anniversary of Madiba's passing.

1. Pieter Mothapo from Mamelodi said:

“I don’t think we should do anything about Mandela’s death anniversary because life goes on. But we should follow in his footsteps and not continue to mourn him.”

2. Elias Makhubela from Mamelodi said:

“I admired Mandela because he did a lot for us and there is no one like him. We should do something on the day he died to remember him. We should celebrate his life as he was like a god to us.”

3. Skhumbuzo Shilangu from Mamelodi said:

“We should make it a holiday because Mandela fought for our freedom.”

4. Simoen Molobela from Mamelodi said:

“We have to do something to remember the old man.”

5. Lazarus Mashodi from Mamelodi said:

“We should not do anything on the day Mandela died because we already have too many memories of him already. We have to move on with life.”

6. Malili Nkuna from Mamelodi said:

“We should do something like a public holiday because Mandela was a respectable man and we should honour him.”

7. Lungu Mokoena from Mamelodi said:

“We should celebrate him because we are where we are because of him. Us as born-frees have access to whatever we want and we should celebrate what he fought for.”
