Four armed men hijacked a motorist when he tried to sell a car to them in Soshanguve at the weekend.
Sohanguve spokesperson Warrant Officer Lolo Mangena said this happened on Saturday.
“The victim (Beniso Thembe) wanted to sell his car and a willing buyer phoned him on Saturday and expressed his interest,” said Mangena.
“Thembe and the bogus buyer met later that day in Mabopane to finalise things.”
Mangena said the two were joined by a woman who came with the bogus buyer.
“After agreeing terms, Thembe and the bogus buyer then went to Hammanskraal to fetch the car while the woman remained to arrange for the deposit,” Mangena said.
“On their way back, the bogus buyer asked Thembe if he could test drive the car, to which he agreed. After driving a few kilometres, the bogus buyer stopped the car and told Thembe, he was waiting for someone.”
Mangena said four armed men arrived with a white Honda Ballade and assaulted Thembe.
“The suspects assaulted him with a firearm multiple times before putting him in the boot. He was later dumped in the bushes. Luckily he wasn’t badly injured as he managed to call for help,” Mangena said.
Thembe told Rekord on Monday that he was alright and that his car was still missing.
Mangena asked people to be on a lookout for a red Audi A4 that was stolen during a hijacking in Block FF. The registration number is XTV392GP.
