Fudgie speaks about the ‘Grand Finale’

Farhaan Behardien ready for battle on Saturday.

International experience is key in the T20 Ram Slam Challenge, Proteas batting all-rounder Farhaan Behardien told Rekord on Thursday.

The Unlimited Titans booked a spot in the final two weeks ago but had to wait for Wednesday’s game between the Cape Cobras and Sunfoil Dolphins to find out who their opponent would be.

“We have prepared well for the final and we are ready for Saturday’s game. We took Monday and Tuesday off, but on Wednesday we hit the ground running again so we are confident,” he said.

The man from the Cape, also known as ‘Fudgie’ by fans and teammates, expressed his desire to play against some of the cricket greats such as Kevin Pieterson and Dwayne Bravo of the West Indies.

“We are not scared of them, we played them before and won even though we lost our opening game to them,” said Behardien.

Both the Unlimited Titans and Sunfoil Dolphins played two times this season with each winning a game apiece. The Dolphins’ danger man Pieterson was not present when the Durban team lost to the Titans a fortnight ago, but Fudgie has downplayed the idea that they had a special plan for Pieterson in the final.

“We are not going to focus on a specific player; they have good players so we will give special attention to whoever they will be fielding on the day. We just need to adapt to the condition and we will be fine,” he said.

The 32-year-old still has vivid memories of their opening home-defeat to the Dolphins a few months ago.

“They played that game well because David Miller scored quickly for them. Albie Morkel ‘smoked’ it and we got close. Our game plan has changed slightly, but I’m not going to reveal anything,” he joked.

A lot of commentators have said the Titans’ form was inspired by international players such as ‘Fudgie’, Albie Morkel and Quinton de Kock.

“Albie just came back from India where he got the man of the match award so he is confident, and also Quinton was in good form for the national team so it helped us get through tough games.”

Behardien said a win on Saturday would be one of his greatest achievements as a cricketer.

“I’ve won about 10 trophies with the Titans and each feeling was special, but the one that stands out was my first one which was the 4-day game. Hopefully the supporters will come in numbers and see us win,” he said.
