Rietfontein man robbed

Three men robbed and assaulted a Rietfontein man on Tuesday afternoon on his way home from work.

A 24-year-old man from Rietfontein was held at gunpoint, assaulted and robbed on Tuesday.

Johann Wheeler was on his way home from work when three men attacked him. One of them was armed.

“I was on my bicycle on my way home from work when I saw three guys walking in front of me in the narrow road I use, near the highway. One of the men moved to the right side to give me right of way to pass him,” said Wheeler.

“I thanked the guy for giving way and then the next minute he grabbed me by the neck from the back. I fell down and they started assaulting me.”

One of the men held Wheeler by the neck and another put a gun to his head as the third man was searching him.

Wheeler said he tried to fight back as the men pinned him to the ground but had to succumb when the gunman threatened to kill him.

“I have been using the same route every day to work for the past three months and yesterday was the first time I saw people on that route,” Wheeler said.

He said that he felt really disappointed because the attackers took everything he had with him.

“They took my work phone, an Iphone, bicycle and all my personal belongings. Maybe I was at the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Wheeler has laid a charge at the police station.
