Matsatsantsa looking for first win of year

After parting ways with coach Gordon Igesund, Superport will look to turn their fortunes around with a win this weekend.

SuperSport United will look to return to winning ways when they host Free State Stars at the Lucas Moripe stadium on Saturday evening.

Matsatsantsa will play the game without a coach after parting ways with Gordon Igesund on Wednesday morning.

Before parting ways with the club, the 59-year-old had called for positivity after the side was brushed aside 2-0 by Sundowns last Saturday.

“I’ve said to them all ‘heads up, these kind of errors happen in football. When we win, we win together and when we lose, we lose together,” he said after the game.

Minutes after Igesund’s departure, rumours started circulating that former Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter would take over. A few minutes later, the club confirmed the rumours.

“SuperSport have parted ways with Gordon Igesund. Stuart Baxter will take over the team from Monday,” SuperSport United said on their twitter handle.

The Pretoria-based team has struggled this season with only four wins from 15 games.

United have won just 16 of their 40 games in all competitions since winning the Telkom Knockout in 2014. They currently find themselves in 10th place in the Absa Premiership table.

A win for Matsatsantsa will see them climb to ninth in the log just a point behind their opponent.

In other games on Saturday, Mamelodi Sundowns will take on Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala stadium.

The biggest game of the weekend however is no doubt the Soweto Derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. The two biggest teams in the country will meet once more at the FNB stadium on Saturday.

Amatuks will travel to Royal Bafokeng to take on Platinum Stars on Sunday afternoon.
