Hijackings a problem in Centurion

Centurion motorists should take note of several hijacking hotspots.

Hijackings continue to be a problem to Centurion motorists, Orange Fox Security said this week.

It advised motorists who arrive home late to open their gate completely before driving in.

“Drive into your hard but stop just inside the driveway so that there isn’t much space between your vehicle and the gate so no one can try to slip in,” said Orange Fox’s Marce Bester.

He said putting the car in reverse so the reverse lights could light-up the area while the gate was closing could scare off would-be hijackers.

According to the National Hijacking Academy, 68% of hijackings happen in the driveways when one arrives or leaves home.

More tips:

– Be aware of your environment and pay attention to detail.

– Turn down the volume of your radio as you approach your premises.

– Alert your security company if it is late at night and you feel you might be followed.

– Have a tracking device installed in your vehicle.

– Alert family members when you are on your way so they can be expect your arrival.

He said motorists should note the following smash-and-grab hotspots:

– Rabie Street and End Street

– Migmatite Street and Hendrick Verwoerd

– R55 and the N14 highway

– R55 and Wierda Road
