Woman killed on N1

Several lanes on the N1 were closed after the woman died after being hit by a car.

Traffic came to a standstill on the N1 south highway in Centurion on Thursday morning after a woman was killed in a pedestrian accident.

Emer-G-Med spokesperson Braam Kruger said this happened around 11:00 near the Old Johannesburg Road off-ramp.

“On arrival, paramedics found that the pedestrian had sustained massive trauma and showed no signs of life.”

She was declared dead at the scene, Kruger said.

Kruger said several lanes were closed off, causing heavy delays towards the scene.

“Motorists are urged to avoid the area. Tshwane metro police and the South African police service’s specialist accident investigation unit are on the scene to investigate.”

Netcare 911 also assisted at the scene, Kruger said.

Motorists are advised to avoid the N1 from Johannesburg heading to Centurion, as the highway has been closed. Traffic is directed to the Old Johannesburg offramp.
