A man was arrested and another was shot dead by the Police Flying squad during a hijacking which occurred in the early hours of Friday morning in Danville.

A man was shot dead and another is behind bars at the Atteridgeville police station after they hijacked a blue Audi in Danville in the early hours of Friday morning.

According to a source known to Rekord the police flying squad division spotted the vehicle and started chasing it.

“The chase resulted in a shooting between police and the suspects. One of the suspects who was a passenger was shot while they were inside the car. When the car got a puncture, the suspect tried to escape and died instantly,” said the source.

The source said the driver of the stolen vehicle also got out of the car and surrendered to police.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini confirmed the episode, saying one person was arrested while the other died at the scene.

“The one suspect is expected to appear in the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court within 48 hours and police investigations are underway,” Dlamini said.
