Groenkloof victim threatens legal action

A Groenkloof victim takes aim at metro for trauma.

Nature reserve victims have threatened legal action against the metro.

Taschia Slabbert and her mother were attacked, robbed and almost raped in the Groenkloof Nature Reserve east of Pretoria on Saturday.

Slabbert told Rekord she was in talks with her lawyer about taking legal action.

She said a camera worth R33 000, which she had only had for a month and was bought on hire purchase, was stolen the three assailants.

The two women were on a hike taking photos for an assignment.

“It is unacceptable that robbers know exactly where to prey for people on a hike. Many victims have come forward and said something needed to be done,” she said.

She said she would take legal action against the reserve.

“Other victims agreed the attacks occurred around the same area, and this showed a pattern. This needs to stop,” she said, adding she would not suffer in silence.

Slabbert said she was especially grateful to one of the security guards at the reserve.

“This guy named Eric was especially helpful to get us the necessary help and has kept in contact to-date informing us of every positive outcome,” she said.

Slabbert and her mother sustained serious injuries in the attack.

“The men took all our belongings and almost raped us. They even took our shoes and my mother and I ran about 2.4 kilometres to seek help,” she said.

Slabbert confirmed two of the three the culprits were in police custody by Monday.

The metro had not yet responded to an invitation for comment as the time of publishing.
