Hawks officer charged with murder

The officer shot and killed two men after arguing with his ex-wife.

A Pretoria-based Hawks officer is facing murder charges for allegedly killing two men dating his ex-wife.

The 35-year-old man allegedly went to his estranged wife’s house where an argument ensued on 17 April, Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) spokesperson Robbie Raburabu said.

“They had verbal exchanges where the woman had to run for her life as the policeman pointed a firearm at her and later fired shots in her direction. She managed to escape unharmed,” he said.

The man allegedly went to a 28-year-old man’s residence in Thokoza, Soweto, where he shot and killed the man.

“He continued to the second one, aged 30, at his shack in Thokoza and shot him dead as well,” Raburabu said.

The Hawks officer later handed himself over to the police.

The man remained in custody and would be back in the Palm Springs Magistrate’s Court next Monday.

“IPID took over the investigation,” Raburabu said.
