Two nabbed robbing a business

The victim cried out loud when he was assaulted which alerted the police.

Two men were caught and arrested during a robbery in Rebecca Street, Pretoria West on Thursday afternoon.

Pretoria West police were patrolling around the Somali shops when the robbery took place, according to the victim who preferred to remain anonymous.

“I was with my brothers around 14:00 when three armed men came into my shop. We asked them what they wanted but they took out firearms and started stealing items from the shop.”

The victim said the men started assaulting him when he refused to hand the money over to them.

“When I finally gave them my phone and money, they assaulted me even more and I started crying out loud.”

“Luckily the police were around and heard me. They made their way into the shop and arrested two of the three robbers,” he said

The third robber got away with R4 000, cigarettes, airtime and cellphones, the victim said.

The Pretoria West police could not be reached for comment.

Pretoria West sector 1 police chairperson, Eric Cordier said criminals were targeting the Somali shops.

“In the past few weeks, robberies in this area have escalated.”
