Police arrest 16 this weekend

Pretoria Central police urge motorists to ensure their vehicles were locked and parked in a safe place.

Central police arrested 16 people for various criminal activities at the weekend.

Pretoria Central police spokesperson Augustinah Selepe said two people were arrested for drunk driving and two for assault with the intention to do grievous bodily harm.

“Another eight were arrested for general theft and four for drug possession,” said Selepe.

All 16 people were expected to appear in court soon.

Selepe also said theft of vehicles was a huge concern in the CBD.

On Saturday, a white Honda Ballade was stolen on the corner of Madiba and Du Toit streets.

“On Sunday, around 11:00, a white Toyota Land Cruiser was stolen on the corner of Pretorius Street and Princess Park Avenue,” she said.

Two more vehicles were stolen in Marabastad.

A Toyota Hiace was stolen while it was parked on the corner of Visagie and Sisulu streets, and a white Isuzu was stolen on the corner of Visagie Street and Nelson Mandela Drive.

Selepe urged motorists to ensure their vehicles were locked and parked in a safe place.

“Always check your car is locked before you walk away,” she said.

She said the policing sectors were patrolling the area.
