Police tackle drug trafficking in Pretoria North
Various people were arrested for drug trafficking in the north of Pretoria over the past few weeks.
The police have made a huge dent in drug trafficking in the north of Pretoria over the past few weeks.
A man was arrested in Mabopane last week after he was found with 52,2kg of dagga.
Sinoville police and community policing forums (CPF) recently arrested five people for possession of drugs and another three people were found with bags of dagga in their vehicle the week before.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk previously told Rekord the police were tipped-off by a resident that two men and a woman were transporting drugs in their vehicle.
“The resident told the police what he saw and investigating teams tracked the suspects down and arrested them,” said Van Dyk.
“The vehicle was searched and 10 arms of dagga wrapped in plastic, weighing 2,9kg, were found and confiscated.”
During the more recent arrest, police were aided by members of the CPF, sectors 1, 2 and 4.
Together they tracked down and positively identified five suspects in possession of drugs.
The suspects are between the ages of 24 and 30.
“Altogether 50 bags of dagga were found in their possession,” said Van Dyk.
Police also found knives, which were also confiscated.
“It is believed that one person had an outstanding warrant of arrest,” said Van Dyk.
“The CPF members were thanked for their commitment and information that brought the drug dealers to book.”
