VIDEO: Water gushes down Raslouw street

A problem with the Raslouw reservoir has caused a huge water leak.

Large amounts of water were seen running down Raslouw Street in Centurion on Tuesday morning, due to a problem at the Raslouw reservoir.

Councillor Marika Kruger Muller said the cause of the leak was not immediately clear.

“We are awaiting a response from Bulk Water supply… the reservoir belongs to the utility,” she said.

Muller said the water had been gushing down the street for three days.

“This is a huge waste. Apart from the wastage it also causes the water pressure in taps to be really low. This is inconvenient for residents.”

She said a large part of Centurion was built on land that contained large amounts of dolomite.

“With all of this water seeping through the ground it creates the possibility for sinkholes to form.”

Centurion resident Johan Glenn said Gouws Avenue was like a river.

“This could be millions of litres of water. This is a problem because we try so hard to save water because of the ongoing drought our country is experiencing.”

It was not clear when the water leak would be repaired.
