Notorious housebreaker gets 33 years
Convicted criminal Musa Ngwenya, who had kept the police busy for a few years, has finally been sentenced.
A notorious Olievenhoutbosch criminal was sentenced to 33 years in prison recently after he was convicted of a number of high profile robberies around Centurion.
The man was convicted in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court.
Weidabrug police spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma said a good investigation by Sergeant Samson Sello Molekoa led to the arrest and conviction of Musa Ngwenya.
Ngwenya was first involved in a carjacking in the Reeds in 2010, she said.
“The victim had parked her car at her parent’s house when she was approached by two suspects – one of them Ngwenya – who pointed a firearm at her and forced her back into the car. They drove to an ATM and forced her to withdraw money from her account,” she said.
She said Ngwenya’s accomplice had wanted to rape the woman but she fought back.
“She grabbed the suspect’s private parts and jumped out of the car screaming for help. The two suspects abandoned the car and ran away,” she said.
Huma said fingerprints linked Ngwenya and a foreign friend of his to the crime.
In 2011, Ngwenya was involved in a house robbery in The Reeds where two cellphones and a laptop were stolen, she said.
In 2013, Ngwenya and his friend were involved in a house robbery in Eldoraigne after the homeowners had hired them to paint the house.
“They tied a domestic worker up and stole valuable items in the garage before fleeing. Ngwenya’s fingerprints were lifted from the scene, linking him to the crime,” she said and added that the police traced Ngwenya to addresses but failed to find him until he was arrested later that year.
Huma said victims had identified Ngwenya in an identification parade.
“Bail was successfully opposed and Ngwenya was kept in custody until his conviction on 17 May last year,” she said.
