New video around pre-school drama
Video footage tries to tell a different story of ‘baby rocker’.
New footage has surfaced of a caretaker accused of violently rocking a seven-month-old baby at the Baba Byekorf day care in Doringkloof.
This video, published by Johan Stephan Nel on YouTube, shows the caretaker concerned lovingly caring for the babies at the centre.
It also shows that the woman who recorded the initial video did not intervene to put the rocking to a stop.
The owners of the day care, Marius and Marisa van Rooyen, said the caretaker recorded in the video resigned shortly after it was made public.
“She handed in her immediate resignation before any disciplinary process took place,” said Marius.
“We also haven’t received an original copy of the first video. We’d still like to see the original video.”
The caretaker who recorded the video has also resigned.
Werner Human, father of the rocked baby, said he was still considering his options.
“As I understand it, the other caretaker who recorded the video didn’t stop it so that she could record more videos. I have other videos in my possession that I’ll release soon enough,” said Human.
Human originally said he was left shocked and angered when he first saw the video.
“It is unbelievable. At first I couldn’t comprehend what I was actually seeing,” said Human.
“That feeling of disbelief was soon followed by sheer anger that my son was treated that way and that a school that always presented itself so well would not tell us about it.”
He said he had been pleased with the school’s regular updates about his child’s progress.
“No matter what, I am not leaving this.”
