Prepaid vending system on the blink

Technicians are working around the clock to solve problems with Tshwane’s prepaid electricity system.

Thousands of frustrated Tshwane metro customers could not purchase prepaid electricity since Tuesday as a result of a glitch in the system.

By Wednesday afternoon, technicians were still trying to establish what the cause of the city-wide problem was.

Metro spokesman Lindela Mashigo on Wednesday apologised to those customers who had been experiencing difficulties in purchasing electricity from the city’s prepaid vending system.

“We are aware of the hiccup and our technicians are working hard to establish what caused the malfunction with a view to restoring the service to normality,” said Mashigo.

Several residents, unable to buy electricity, were left in the cold and the dark and contacted Rekord for assistance, saying the metro did not answer their telephone calls when they attempted to report the problems with the prepaid system.
