Hercules trio’s bail application postponed
Three men arrested following a car chase in Hercules are still in police custody after their bail hearing was postponed.
Three men arrested for car theft in Hercules will appear in court again next week, after their bail application was postponed.
Police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe said the trio, aged 22, 25 and 28, appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of housebreaking implements and attempted murder.
“They were arrested on Monday afternoon, after a suspected stolen vehicle was spotted in Hercules.”
Selepe said a woman tipped police off last week after she identified a car she had seen on posters as being stolen.
On Monday, police on patrol came across the same vehicle, with the same registration number as the car that was reported stolen.
“When suspects noticed the police and Tshwane metro following them, they sped into oncoming traffic and ran a red light on the corner of Bremer and Market streets in Hercules,” she said.
Selepe said the trio’s car collided with three other cars before it came to a standstill.
“When police searched the vehicle, they found housebreaking implements. No one sustained serious injuries and the investigation is ongoing.”
The three men were still in police custody, she said.
In a separate incident, one person was arrested for attempted armed robbery, and possession of a firearm and ammunition on Monday, said Selepe.
“It is alleged that a doctor from Louis Pasture hospital withdrew cash from a bank in Lynnwood.”
“When he returned to the hospital, the complainant got out of the car and was immediately approached by five men who pointed firearms at him and demanded cash,” she said.
Selepe said the doctor ran up the parking area’s stairs and called for help.
“Two security guards (patrolling the area) were ordered to lie down while two suspects ran after the doctor,” said Selepe.
“Louis Pasture security members reacted swiftly and arrested one suspect, while the other four men managed to flee.”
Selepe said no injuries were reported and the man appeared in court on Wednesday. His case was postponed to 8 May
“Investigations are ongoing and more suspects will be arrested.”
