Investigation into death of Mams ex-police officer underway
Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the death of an ex-colleague.
The Mamelodi East police are investigating the circumstances that led to the death of 67-year-old ex-police officer in Mamelodi Gardens.
It is alleged that the deceased’s wife and daughter were awoken by the sound of gunfire from the family bathroom on the morning of 25 May.
According to the Mamelodi East police spokesperson Warrant Officer Michael Mbewe, upon investigation they discovered the deceased on the bathroom floor with his private firearm next to him in what seemed a suicide.
The police and the ambulance service were called to the scene and the deceased was certified dead by paramedics.
“The deceased is an ex-police officer who worked at the Silverton police and retired in 1995. He lived with wife and daughter in Mamelodi Gardens until his death,” said Mbewe.
Athlenda Mathe, of Netcare911, said when the paramedics arrived on scene, they found a man in the bathroom with a fatal gunshot wound.
“The man was already dead before our arrival and his death was made official by a Netcare 911 paramedic. The shooting occurred around 07:30,” said Mathe.
Police are investigating the matter.
