Man attacked with panga

A man was severely injured when he was attacked with a panga north of the city.

A young man was taken to hospital after he was slashed with a panga on Saturday morning.

Netcare911 spokesperson Chris Botha said paramedics received a call at 10:52, that a man had been attacked with a panga at the Groot Vallei informal settlement in Hammanskraal.

“Reports from the scene indicate that the Zimbabwean man aged 22 was allegedly attacked and robbed by unknown people,” he said.

Paramedics found that the man had sustained a severe blow across his spine.

“With the man having severe spinal injuries and loss of sensation in the legs, paramedics called for the Netcare medical helicopter to safely transport him to hospital,” Botha said.

The man was stabilised on the scene and after paramedics deftly immobilised his spine on a trauma board, he was airlifted to a specialised hospital.
