Man miraculously evades death as gun jams
“The robber shot three shots into his face but none of the shots went off.”
At 03:45 on Friday morning, Redge Grant received a call from one of his workers saying that there had been a shooting at his shop, Archer’s Edge.
Simiso Ngwenya and his brother Peace have been living next to Archer’s Edge for quite some time.
“Simiso is an electrician and Peace works with me in the shop,” said Grant.
Grant said two robbers attacked the Ngwenya brothers in the early hours of Friday morning.
“The robbers managed to take Peace’s laptop and then proceeded to Simiso’s room.”
Simiso woke up once the robbers entered the room.
“Simiso grabbed one of the robbers and the scuffle moved outside.”
One of the robbers had a firearm.
“The robber aimed the firearm straight into Simiso’s face. He pulled the trigger three times but none of the rounds fired,” said Grant.
Simiso thought that the robber was using a toy gun and tackled him to the ground where they struggled.
“The other robber then got a hold of the gun while the other robber was struggling with Simiso.”
He shot twice at Simiso.
“Simiso was hit in the shoulder and the thigh, but he did not realise that he had been shot,” said Grant.
The robber shot again, this time hitting his accomplice.
“The robber shot his associate in the head and he died.”
According to Grant the shooter then fled.
“Simiso ran after the shooter without any shoes or protection. Only after running for 400m he realised he had been shot.”
In the time that Simiso was chasing the shooter, his brother was awoken by the commotion.
“Peace thought his brother had died. He started running down the street toward my house in panic.”
It was then Simiso called Grant to tell him about the shooting.
Grant met Peace on his way to the shop. Back at the shop they found Simiso lying on the ground.
“The first thing he told me was that he was fine, he was alive,” said Grant.
Simiso was taken to Steve Biko academic hospital.
“Simiso is all smiles. He says it is a miracle that he is alive. He says God must have a plan for his life.”
Grant says this is not the first time that Simiso had a run in with criminals.
“He chased away criminals from the shop on previous occasions as well. He’s a giant of a man and a real hero in our eyes. We are thankful that he is still with us.”
The police are investigating the matter.
