Security guard sentenced to 23 years for girlfriend’s murder
Hlatswayo said Nhlapo had allowed him to have sexual relations with Lebepe in one of the rooms after which Nhlapo had asked for a turn with Lepebe, but she refused.
A security guard has been sentenced to 23 years behind bars for murdering his girlfriend.
Sefiso John Hlatshwayo (34) appeared in the Pretoria High Court on 26 May for murdering his girlfriend, Moyabo Regina Lebepe (35). He killed her when she visited him at his workplace at Menlyn Wood office complex two years ago.
Hlatswayo asked for permission from his supervisor, Thomas Nhlapo, to use one of the rooms to have sexual relations with Lebepe.
Hlatswayo said Nhlapo had given him permission to have sexual relations with Lebepe, after which Nhlapo had asked for a turn with Lepebe but she refused.
Hlatswayo said Nhlapo then sent him on patrol and Lebepe was left alone with Nhlapo.
When Hlatswayo returned 30 to 35 minutes later, Lebepe threatened to file rape charges against both men.
Hlatswayo said he was scared Lebepe would see her threat through, and he and Nhlapo decided to kill her.
Hlatswayo held her hands behind her back and Nhlapo strangled her.
“I went to fetch a shopping trolley and when I returned Nhlapo had already wrapped her in a blanket,” said Hlatswayo.
The two men then put Lebepe’s body in the trolley and hid it in an isolated area.
Hlatshwayo told the judge he was unaware that Nhlapo had raped Lebepe.
Lebepe’s body was found four days after she was killed.
Hlatswayo was sentenced to 23 years for murder and defeating the ends of justice while Nhlapo, who denied having any part in the murder, is expected to appear in court on 10 October for defeating the ends of justice.
