Bad weekend for SA teams

It was a bad day in the office for South African teams as both the Proteas and the Springboks suffered defeats.

In coach Allister Coetzee’s first official game in charge, the Springboks lost 20-26 to Ireland in the first Test match of the series played at Newlands, Cape Town on Saturday.

The Irish, despite playing most of the game with 14 men, recorded the famous away victory.

The two teams will lock horns again this Saturday, at the Emirates Airlines Park.

In the Rugby U/20 championships, the junior Springboks lost their second game 13-19 to Argentina after defeating Japan in their opener.

In cricket, the Proteas lost to a rampant Australian side led by David Warner. The Aussies posted 288 in their 50 overs with the Proteas falling short by 36 runs despite a bright start from Hashim Amla and Faf Du Plessis.

The defeat is Proteas’ second in the triangular ODI series which also features hosts West Indies.

In Athletics, South Africa’s Akani Simbine finished 6th in the Racers Grand Prix in Kingston, Jamaica on Saturday. He raced against the fastest man in Usain Bolt and the second fastest Yohan Blake.
