The five time Ballon d’Or winner was ordered to pay a fine of around 2 million euros (about R33 million) and his father 1.5 million euros, reports said.
The 29-year-old announced his retirement from international football last week, after a heartbreaking third loss in a major tournament final.
The sentencing therefore couldn’t have come at the worst time for the man regarded as the best footballer player in the world.
