Gate motor theft rising in the north
Police said scores of gate motors were stolen in the past week.
At least seven gate motors have been stolen in Pretoria North in the past week.
The thefts have prompted police to conduct patrols to catch the culprits.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Rebecca Phatlhane said the recent spike in gate motor thefts had been noted and would not be taken lightly.
“We plan on doing operations and patrolling areas to catch the criminals involved.”
She said five gate motors were stolen last week while a further two had been reported stolen since Monday.
“These crimes usually occur at night and so far no one has been arrested. We urge residents to take caution to ensure the safety of their gate motors.”
Police were searching second-hand stores for stolen gate motors.
“They are very expensive and these criminals take them to resell them,” said Phatlhane.
To ensure safety of gate motors, Phatlhane urged residents to do the following:
– Make sure your gate motor is bolted to the ground
– Ensure your gate cannot be lifted off its rail
– Ensure the gate motor is locked
