Simbine sets new record
Local athlete recorded the fifth fastest time of the year(9.89 sec) to win the 100m race in Hungary.
Local athlete Akani Simbine set a new local record after he ran 9,89 seconds in the 100m race at the Gyulai István Memorial in Budapest, Hungary, on Monday.
The local athlete, who is set to compete in the 100m race in the Olympics next month, set the tone by beating former fastest man Asafa Powell by 0,03 seconds.

Simbine’s time is the fifth fastest this year, with American Justin Gatlin being the fastest after running 9,80 seconds in the American trials earlier this month.
The 22-year-old has been a man to beat of late and if he can maintain his form, he will definitely be one to watch.
Next month, Simbine could likely line up against athletic greats such as Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake in this year’s Olympics.
In March, Simbine produced a record-breaking performance when he won the 100m in 9,96 seconds at the ASA Night Series Meeting at Pilditch Stadium, Pretoria.
With that win, he become the fastest 100m sprinter in South Africa.
