Deputy principal investigated
Pupils of Thuto Bohlale Secondary School want the deputy principal of school gone.
Education authorities have acknowledged claims that a Nellmapius deputy school principal have sold report cards to pupils.
Acting education spokesperson Oupa Bodibe said his department viewed the matter in a serious light.
“The matter has been investigated and concluded by the district labour relation unit,” he said.
“It has been submitted to the head office to prefer formal charges against the educator.”
Pupils of Thuto Bohlale Secondary refused to attend classes at the school in Nellmapius Extension 7 on Tuesday in a protest against the deputy principal.
Bodibe condemned their conduct.
“As the department we are disappointed with the conduct of pupils Tuesday morning and for accusing the department for dragging the matter for too long.”
Bodibe said department immediately intervened and stabilised the situation.
The district would continue monitoring the school until the situation is normalised.
The protesting pupils demanded that the deputy principal be fired with immediate effect.
They accused her of selling progress reports for
R1 000 to grade 11 pupils who had failed.
Thabo Molapo, secretary of the Congress of SA Students, said the pupils had had enough and would not return to their classes until something had been done.
“We have found out about this at the beginning of the year… and the department is dragging the matter for too long,” he said.
“The deputy principal is playing with the future of this innocent children. If they allow her to come to school then we are not going to attend school at all.”
Molapo insisted that pupils who had bought progress in order to be promoted be compelled to repeat the syllabus.
“If not, all hell will break loose at the school. And those pupils know that we know them very well,” he said.
