Mixed bag for SA athletes in Rio
Louis Meintjes came close to getting SA’s first medal at the Olympic Games.
Pretoria born Louis Meintjes finished at an impressive seventh spot in the 256.4km men’s road race in Fort Copacabana, Rio De Janeiro on Saturday. Fellow countryman Daryl Impey finished 28th.

“Gave it our best and proud of what we did today at the Olympics. What a beast of a course,” Impey tweeted.
The SA rowing men’s team finished second in their heat earlier on Saturday.
In Swimming, Cameroon van der Burgh would get an opportunity to defend his 100m breaststroke crown after finishing third in the semi-finals on Saturday night.

SA women’s football team Banyana Banyana were sent packing after their 2-0 loss against China in the early hours of Sunday.
