Simbine wins his heat

Local sprinter Akani Simbine qualified for the 100m final after winning his heat in the Olympics.

 

Local sprinter Akani Simbine finished 1st in the men’s 100m heats to qualify for the Semi-finals in the Rio Olympics on Saturday afternoon.

The 23-year old finished in a time 10.14 in heat 8. He will join Usain Bolt, Justin Gatlin,Yohan Blake and others in Tuesday’s semi-finals.

Simbine came into the Olympics games with the fifth fastest time of the year. He was been a man to watch this season.

Another South African,who competed in the 100m is Henircho Bruintjies,who finished sixth in his heat. Unfortunately he failed to reach the semi-finals.
