Pupils plant trees

School pupils taught how to plant trees on Arbour Day.

Boikantsho Primary School in Mamelodi East celebrated Arbour Day by planting trees on the school grounds on Friday.

This formed part of welcoming spring season. Each grade put its own tree in the ground and pupils will take turn taking care of the plants.

Teacher Angelinah Chipu said pupils had the opportunity to name the trees according to their grades.

The school bought the trees and teachers gave tips on on how the trees should be taken care of.

Principal Vusi Khumalo encouraged the pupils to always look after the plants and to make sure that they flourished.

“The trees are very important in our lives because the air that we breathe comes from them,” said Khumalo.

Grade 7 pupil Gopolang Sekhukhune (13) said she was happy to have learned about the importance of planting trees and the need to look after them.

He undertook to encourage his parents and friends to plant more trees.
