35 arrested in the CBD
A total of 35 lawbreakers were arrested by police for various crimes such as drug-related activities, drunk driving and more.
Pretoria Central police arrested 35 people for various crimes at the weekend.
Spokesperson Sergeant Ann Poortman said the police were conducting searches at roadblocks in various parts of the city.
“We wanted to cover all aspects of crime prevention and address contributing factors such as drug and intoxication,” said Poortman.
Four of the 35 were arrested for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition while seven were arrested for drug-related crimes.
Two people were arrested for drunken driving while 21 were in the country illegally. One person was arrested for child abuse, theft, common robbery, business burglary and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
“Drugs and money were confiscated as well copper cables and tools that were found in the possession of the suspects,” said Poortman.
All those arrested are expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court during the course of the week.
Poortman gave the following safety tips to motorists:
– Always keep your doors locked and your windows closed.
– Do not open your windows for hawkers at the side of the road or traffic lights.
– Always lock your valuables in the boot of your vehicle before departure. Never leave any valuables visible on the seat.
– Remove detachable radios when getting out of your vehicle.
– Have an alarm or anti-theft device installed in your car.
– Always be alert, especially when stopping at traffic lights at night.
