Police end protest in Marabastad
Somali and Pakistani nationals blocked the streets in Marabastad, complaining about poor service delivery at the department of home affairs.
Protests by Somali and Pakistani nationals in Marabastad which started on Thursday afternoon had calmed down by Friday morning.
Police spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said the protest took place at Marabastad home affairs offices.
“Protesters threw rocks at the home affairs building and blocked Es’kia Mphahlele Drive. According to them, poor service at the department of home affairs was the reason they took to the streets,” he said.
“Police arrived at the scene and calmed the situation. No injuries or damages were reported.”
Msimango said police, metro police, home affairs and the leaders of the protesters would have a meeting soon.
