How safe is pizza delivery?

Tshwane central police cluster warns fast food delivery employees to be careful when delivering orders.
This follows random hijackings of small delivery vehicles, police said.
Spokesperson Captain Colette Weibach said Brooklyn and Sunnyside police stations were investigating such cases.
The latest hijacking occurred a week ago on Saturday evening.
“A 23-year-old man received a delivery order for a certain ‘Pricilla’ at an address in Arcadia Street, Hatfield. On his arrival two unknown men were waiting for Pricilla’s order at the gate. The delivery man was overpowered and the men took off with his blue Honda 125cc motorbike,” she said.
“These criminals poach on smaller delivery vehicles such as scooters and smaller motorbikes. It is not only pizza delivery men who are targeted but also other fast food outlets. Sometimes a street number will be given that does not exist and the delivery man is then targeted while he is looking for the address.”
Weilbach said delivery staff were considered vulnerable because they were working alone and often had cash on them.
“The fact that they are working at night and must go out to unknown addresses to customers whom they have never met before also contributes to their vulnerability.”
It was important for delivery staff to remain aware of their surroundings and to be safety conscience at all times, she said.
