Police vehicle torched by angry residents
Residents attack police when liquor is confiscated.
A police vehicle has been torched and another stoned during a police-operation in Pretoria-West.
Hercules police were attacked by residents at the Gomorah squatter camp when the officers confiscated alcohol sold without a permit. The attack happened on Friday at around 16:30.
Police officers were attacked by a group of people when the officers arrested a person selling liquor without a license at 1647 Maluleke village.
“While confiscating liquor and arresting the suspect, community members overpowered them (police) and took one of the police vehicles’ keys,” said police spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango.
Msimango said the one vehicle was then set alight by the angry residents while the officers called for backup.
“Another police vehicle was damaged when people threw stones at it,” Msimango said.
He said no one was injured during the attack and no arrests have yet been made for damage to property.
