The hostages have been released.
According to South African Police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller who is on the scene two security guards and three police officers had been released at the hostage situation in Bolo Street Moreleta Park on Wednesday. Police at the scene said that it is still uncertain when residents of the estate will be allowed to enter the estate again.
“Police are currently containing the situation,” said the informant.
He said it was not yet clear where the shooter was.
The situation at the scene remained tense as reports of a dramatic climax circulated amongst residents at the Moreleta Park hostage drama.
The media and community members have been moved further away from cordoned off area near the complex that occupies the armed man – who was confirmed the shooter of two people.
Police have confirmed progress has been made regarding the hostage situation but said they would issue a formal statement once all information was tallied.
Spokesperson Captain Dave Miller said police would like to apologise to members of the community for the inconvenience caused by the cordoned off hostage situation.
Miller said the police task force was currently busy with the matter.
According to neighbours the shooter is believed to have had aggressive tendencies.
A resident Philip Maree said the shooter allegedly shot and killed a neighbour’s dog two years ago.
Residents residing in the complex were parking outside of the scene as they were not allowed inside.
