Police have just confirmed that the Moreleta Park shooter is dead.
According to a reliable source the man shot and killed himself earlier this evening.
“Four people including the shooter died from life threatening injuries,” spokesperson Dave Miller said.
A reliable source said that the wife of the shooter was not home during the first half of the ordeal, however she did witnessed some of the shootings later on. The shooter’s wife is badly traumatised and is receiving trauma counselling on the scene.
Residents are now allowed back into the estate.
“Forensic teams are still busy on the scene,” Miller said. He could at this stage not give more information about the deceased.
Rekord earlier reported that the culprit had presumably shot and killed two other people, according to Brinant security operations manager Anton Nieuwoudt.
“Two people are lying in a street in the complex,” Nieuwoudt said by mid-afternoon.
The shooter later in the evening released his hostages, two police officers and three security guards.
Police had searched for the man before he committed suicide.
Earlier in the afternoon a police helicopter was also on the scene in Bolo Street, Moreleta Park, in the east of Pretoria.
A police negotiator was called to speak to the armed man earlier. Police were to storm the house had the man not released his hostages.
