A second victim has been identified, following the hostage drama in Moreleta Park, late yesterday in the east of Pretoria.
Jannie Earle (65) was one of the victims shot and killed in the events that led to a hostage situation in Bolo Street, Moreleta Park on Wednesday, according to reports and a source who asked not to be named.
Earle was the former chairperson of the Afikaanse Taalraad.
One of the other victims initially identified was caretaker Edward Gobey who responded to a dispute between the shooter, Danie Small and an elderly woman resident.
A neighbour, Laccollene Raubenheimer, said they heard several shots around 12:30 on Wednesday.
““We were on our way to lunch when we drove right into the scene. Two people were lying in the road, one on his stomach and the other on his back. Both men had sustained gunshots to their heads. There were a lot of blood. It was a terrible sight.”
Small was known by his neighbours who told Rekord he had an aggressive nature.
Police found Small dead in his house. It is understood that he killed himself.
Police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller told Rekord that four people were confirmed dead.
Miller apologised to the many frustrated residents who were prevented from entering the complex during the police operation to resolve the hostage situation. He thanked them for their patience.
