Colleagues offer condolences to killed hostage victim’s family

Jannie Earle has been identified as the second shooting victim in Moreleta Park on Wednesday.
Earle (65), the former chairperson of the Afrikaanse Taalraad, was shot and killed after a 10-hour hostage situation in the Meadows Estate in Bolo Street.
Secretary-General Jan Bosman said the taalraad was in absolute shock when they heard of Earle’s death.
Bosman said the entire Afrikaanse Taalraad offered their sincerest condolences to Earle’s family.
“We would also like to express our sympathy to the members and management of the Afrikaanse Taalraad who lost a colleague in the tragedy.”
Bosman said the taalraad wanted to honor Earle, who was a fond promoter of the Afrikaans journalist.
One of the other victims was estate caretaker Edward Gobey, who responded to a dispute between the shooter Danie Small and an elderly woman resident.
Neighbours told Rekord Small had an aggressive nature.
Police found Small dead in his house around 21:45 on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller told Rekord four people were confirmed dead. The other victim has not been identified yet.
