A man was shot and wounded during an armed robbery at an intersection in Centurion on Wednesday afternoon.
Lyttelton police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller said four men robbed and shot a man in his fifties before they fled with unidentified goods from the corner of Jean Avenue and Rabie Street.
Miller said the men seemed to have ambushed the 50-year-old as he drove into the Zenex filling station on Jean Avenue.
“The four men shot the victim in the upper chest,” Miller said.
Miller said security footage showed the attackers fleeing in a white vehicle and black Opel.
He said the local Community Policing Forum gave chase.
“The CPF members lost the attackers somewhere near Highveld in Centurion. The 50-year-old wounded man was attended to by medics that were near the petrol station,” Miller said.
He said the victim was transported to Unitas Hospital.
“The four culprits are at large and police are investigating.”
A security officer at the scene, who asked not to be named, claimed the 50-year-old was ambushed and in possession of diamonds.
Police would not confirm nor deny speculation about the diamonds.
