The police are still investigating an alleged kidnapping of a five-month-old baby last Tuesday.
Constable Herman Moremi said the police were still searching for a woman who allegedly kidnapped the baby girl from her home in Marokolong, north of Pretoria.
Moremi said the child’s mother had rented out a room at the back of her house to two tenants.
“The mother left the child in the care of the one tenant when she left for work.”
He said the babysitter then had to rush to the clinic so asked the second tenant to look after the baby.
“When the babysitter returned, the second tenant and the baby were gone. She immediately informed the mother,” he said.
Moremi said the two women did not know the alleged kidnapper’s identity, except that she had told them she was from Zimbabwe.
The police have urged anyone with information to contact Lieutenant-Colonel Mathikge on 082-856-1272 or the Temba SAPS on 012-717-9000.
