Man caught with illegal firearm

Two other men managed to escape from police.

A 31-year-old man was caught with an unlicensed firearm in his possession on Tuesday in Laudium.

Police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto said this happened around 09:00 in Jet street.

“A team followed up on information received about three suspicious men who were roaming the streets of Laudium,” he said.

“When the team arrived the men ran into different directions.”

The team pursued them.

“One of the men was arrested at a Muslim school in Joel street. A shotgun was recovered and seized,” he said.

Moloto said the two other men were still on the run.

The 31-year-old would appear in the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court soon.

“We appeal to the public or any person with information which could lead to the arrest of the other two to come forward,” said Moloto.
