Woman rats on grandson

“After confiscating the goods and returning to the station, we came across a victim who was reporting a housebreaking.”

The Mamelodi police have linked a man to a housebreaking after his grandmother reported a suspicious bag in his room on Monday.

Police spokesperson captain Johannes Maheso said the grandmother came across “suspicious goods” in her grandson’s room.

She reported her find to the police, who upon searching found electrical appliances, clothes, shoes and other personal items in a togbag.

Maheso said: “After confiscating the goods and returning to the station, we came across a victim who was reporting a housebreaking.”

He said the victim identified his belongings.

Maheso said the police believed the man broke into a home and took the stolen items to his home only for his “honest grandmother” to rat him out.

Maheso said he was impressed by the sober-minded grandparent who decided to report her grandson in her effort to fight crime in her neighbourhood.

The suspect was at large and the police were investigating further, Maheso said.
