‘Robber’ knocked down by car in Sunnyside
The alleged robber and his three accomplices attacked a couple and seized a cellphone and bank cards from them.
A man was hit in Sunnyside on Saturday as his getaway from the scene of the crime.
Sunnyside police spokesperson Captain Daniel Mavimbela said the man plus his three accomplices had robbed a couple in Du Toit Street of a cellphone and bank cards.
“The 24-year-old then left the scene and ran towards Sunnyside on foot. His escape bid was foiled when he was knocked down by a car on the corner of Nelson Mandela Drive and Pretoria Street,” said Mavimbela.
The robber was charged with the possession of stolen property and robbery.
He is expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon.
Mavimbela urged the public to be vigilant at all times and take precaution when approached by strangers.
“The local police have intensified surveillance of crime hotspots like Robert Sobukwe, Leyds, Troye, Nelson Mandela and Gerard Moerdyk streets,” he said.
