Sport highlights 28-30 October
While the sporting weekend will be quieter than usual, there will still be plenty of action for sports fans.
Although there are no major international sport events to look forward to this weekend, sport lovers will not be left completely high and dry with nothing to watch.
Cricket
While South African cricket fans will have to wait until next Thursday for the start of the first test against Australia in Perth, there will at least be domestic action to keep them busy.
The Titans are in Cape Town for their fourth game in the four-day Sunfoil Series against the Cape Cobras. The game started at 10:00 on Thursday and they will hopefully have another victory in the bag by Sunday 30 October.
Rugby
The Tshwane 10s rugby tournament will take place at Harlequins rugby club this weekend. This is the expansion of the popular Cape Town 10s, known as the “social sporting and lifestyle event of the year”.
The action will start at 11:00 on Friday and Saturday. The organisers also promise that visitors will get the opportunity to rub shoulders with lots of ex-Springbok starts and other celebrities.
Football
After all the excitement of Mamelodi Sundowns’ success in the CAF Champions League, it is back to Premier League action for the top South African clubs this weekend. Both Pretoria’s competitors will be in action.
On Saturday, SuperSport United will travel to Cape Town to meet Ajax Cape Town in the Cape Town Stadium at 20:15.
Mamelodi Sundowns will play before their own fans for a change when they meet Cape Town City at Loftus Versfeld on Sunday at 15:30.
Athletics
The King Price Irene Farm Race takes place on Saturday at the Agricultural Research Farm in Irene. The event consists of a 21.1km half marathon, a 10km road race and a 5km fun run. The first two races start at 06:00 and the fun run at 06:30 Enquiries: Wynand Breytenbach on 082-937-0733.
