Three men were arrested by the Eersterust police for house robbery and murder on Thursday morning.
This followed shortly after a 76-year-old woman was found dead at her house in Makenna Avenue, Eersterust, in the north east of Pretoria.
Eersterust police spokesperson Sergeant Sam Shibambo said the woman was alone when she was attacked by three men who were attempting to rob her.
“The victim was found with several wounds on her upper body,” he said.
The home’s burglar door was forced open and several household electronic appliances were taken, said Shibambo.
“An investigation was initiated shortly after the police was called to the scene and a manhunt was launched for the three men,” he said.
Two of the men were twin brothers and they lived several houses from the victim, said Shibambo.
The two brothers were arrested along with a third accomplice.
The three men were due to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon and would remain in police custody.
“The investigation will continue and police are hoping to make more arrests soon,” Shibambo said.
Shibambo asked residents to assist Eersterust police in fighting crime by phoning the Gauteng standby provincial duty numbers on 082-313-8299 or 082-334-4354.
